How do I write a persuasive text?

Persuasive writing texts have four parts; the title, the opening paragraph, the middle paragraphs and the closing paragraph.

Read through the explanation of each of the sections.

Title
Your title should tell the reader what they are going to read about.

Pirates Deserve more sympathy

Opening Paragraph
Start by writing your thesis. A thesis is an idea that isn't 100% true or false and could be argued about. Then write a sentence that suggests why your thesis could be right.

Pirates deserve more sympathy. People always talk about the bad things pirates do, but pirates may be bad because they have such hard lives.

Middle Paragraphs
You should try to have at least three middle paragraphs. Each of your middle paragraphs should start with a sequencing connective. This prepares the reader for your argument. Each of your paragraphs should have one argument. Then, explain your argument with examples or facts.

Firstly, pirates work very hard. Most adults get four weeks holiday a year. However, pirates don’t get these holidays because they are too busy stealing treasure.

Secondly, life as a pirate is very stressful. Pirates worry about keeping their treasure safe, escaping from the law, and who they will rob next. Furthermore, no one ever invites them to relax over a cup of tea.

Finally, many pirates have disabilities. Pirates often get injured at work and end up with a peg leg, eye patch or even a hook as a hand. Usually a person with a disability gets some extra help or even just a little sympathy, but pirates don’t get anything.

Closing Paragraph
Your closing paragraph should not introduce any new ideas or arguments. It should just repeat everything you have already written. A good first sentence tries to convince the reader that they agree with your thesis. The next sentence should repeat each of your three arguments so the reader remembers your ideas. A great way to end is with a strong statement that tells the reader to agree with your opinion.

As you can see, pirates deserve more sympathy. They work hard, get very stressed, and often have to live with a disability. You must give pirates more support!
